10-14-07  "The Other Samaritan Story"  Luke 17:11-19    Is the story of the ten lepers only about gratitude?   Or is there another concern fits well with Luke's overall unique perspective for the last, the least, and the lost.

10-07-07  "Obsessed with the Lost"  Luke 15   Yep, the whole chapter of Luke is on the table this week.  When the lost are found, you can bet, there's gonna be a party!

9-30-07  "Compassion's Calendar"  Luke 13:10-17; 14:1-6   Jesus shows compassion, EVEN when it is in direct conflict with the law.  

9-23-07  "Windfall"  Luke 12:13-21   We're still looking for Luke's unique perspective in telling the news of Jesus Christ.  This week, a wealthy farmer has a "windfall."  What's a fellah to do?

9-16-07  "One Hell of a Time"  Luke 16:19-31  The rich man neglects the beggar at his gate.  They both die, and now the rich man is the one feeling neglected.

9-9-07  "A Samaritan's Kindness"  Luke 10:29-37     Luke records some stories and events that Mark and Matthew miss--providing important clues as to what Luke believes is most important about Jesus and his ministry.  Today marks the beginning of a long series of sermons from special stories found only in Luke.

8-26-07 Series: Noah--The Real Story.  "The Rest of the Story"  Genesis 8 and 9   The flood subsides, the ark hits ground, and Noah and all those on the ark are allowed to re-enter the earth.  A rainbow fills the sky as God's covenant to never flood the earth to destroy all creatures ever again.   But that's not the end of the story...

8-19-07  Series: Noah--The Real Story.  "The Flood"  Genesis 7:6-10; 17-24  The rains come down and the floods come up.   It's the difficult part of the story.  When it rains, sometimes it pours.   When it pours, sometimes it floods.   Where do we find refuge?

8-12-07  Series: Noah--The Real Story.  "The B.H.A.G."   Genesis 6:14-7:1  Do you know what a BHAG is?   Well, Noah get one and it's a real doozie!  Remember, God lays out Big, Holy, Audacious, Goals even today--in our particular context.

7-8-07  "Wanting What's Good for You"  Galatians 5:13-25  You ever hear of the "Cowboy Code?"   Does following it make you a cowboy?  No, not quite.  But follow the "cowboy way" long enough and sure 'nuf you'll start to turn into one.  A transformation takes place, and when that happens, no one will have to prescribe the rules for you to follow anymore.   They'll be a way of life.   Paul says, the same thing is true of being a Christian.  As one is transformed, it isn't about what you ought to do any longer, it's what you want to do.

7-1-07  "Whose Mantle, Whose Ministry?" 2 Kings 2:1-2; 8-14   Elijah and then Elisha are enlisted by God for God's purposes.   But make no mistake about it.   The work and the mission are God's.  We welcome our Pastor of Congregational Care and Teaching, Rev. Adelia Hooley today. 

6-24-07  "Can You Hear Me Now?  Good!"  1 Kings 19:1-16  Elijah seems depressed, afraid for his life, holing up in a dark, damp cave.   God has a word for Elijah, when he is ready to hear it.

6-17-07  "Points of View"  Luke 8:26-39   Jesus encounters a man invaded by a legion of demons!  What happened to the man as he encountered Jesus?   Well...it depends on who you ask.   Each witness has a different point of view!

5-27-07  Pentecost "Living or Dying"   Acts 2    Today, we read our memorial list of those who have passed away from our congregation over the past year.   It is also Pentecost.   How do we observe both of these events on this one Sunday?

5-20-07   Joy! Sunday   "Seeing Children"   Matthew 19:13-15    Jesus and his disciples see children very differently, which leads to two very different ways of treating them.   Does the church see with the eyes of the disciples, or the eyes of Jesus?

3-25-07  Fifth Sunday in Lent  "What's New?"  Isaiah 43: 16-21   God tells the people of God that they should not hold onto former things, things of old.   For God is about to do a "New Thing."   God always is faithful to do a new thing for a new day, and is not locked into the past.

3-18-07  Fourth Sunday in Lent   Our guest preacher is Dr. Myron McCoy, president of Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri.

3-11-07  Third Sunday in Lent  "Intervention"  Luke 13:1-9   The gardener proposes an intervention for a fig tree that is about to be executed.    Just one more chance, to turn things around. 

3-04-07 Second Sunday in Lent  "Until You Say..."   Luke 13:31-35   The fox is after the hen.  But he is only one of many.  Jesus looks toward Jerusalem and laments that the God's chosen children have misinterpreted God's mission, and resist Jesus, even violently so.

2-25-07  First Sunday in Lent  "Tempted"   Luke 4:1-13  Jesus is tempted in the wilderness by Satan.  Jesus resists.   How well do we do with our temptations?
